Arriving in Muscat
I just arrived in Oman last night, around 11:00pm.
Everything went surprisingly smoothly! I managed to catch my connection in Dubai--despite having to jog like an idiot through the airport in order to get to the farthest gate on time! And my luggage actually showed up without a hitch!
But fourteen hours sitting for one flight did feel very long by the end. My legs were screaming to walk around and stretch. I am sure the people sitting next to me appreciated all of my fidgeting. But I did manage to sleep quite a bit. And I can't really complain the Emirates plane was really nice--a lot of free movies and TV shows to watch, complimentary pillows, blankets and socks, and three actually decent meals!
What I have seen of Muscat is beautiful so far, but I will get to see much more today. We are going on a city tour and having a cultural orientation. So far there are a lot of pretty white buildings and palm trees! It is one of the cleanest cities in the world.
No surprise, getting in last night it was very hot here. It is more humid than I expected also. It almost feels like Florida. So that will be interesting... :)
I woke up early this morning, so I am predicting that jet lag will hit me pretty hard later this afternoon, but that's how it goes!
We have an easy day today, just with the tour and orientation, and then we will start classes tomorrow. The work week is Sunday-Thursday here, so Friday and Saturday will normally be our days off.
More pictures and info to come!
